In January 2013 our founder's daughter, Sarah suddenly lost her hearing. She was 2 ½ years old at the time. Seven months after being diagnosed as deaf Sarah received two cochlear implants at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
During the time between Sarah’s diagnosis and surgery her parents chose not to think of her as “deaf” or “hearing impaired” instead they believed she was simply “waiting to hear” until she received her cochlear implants. That belief eventually led them to form Waiting to Hear to help bring the gift of sound to more children like Sarah.
